BYU Targets at Palmetto Road Championships
The Adidas 3SSB circuit held it’s Palmetto Road Championship event this past weekend. The event is the culmination of the summer in which teams have had three previous Adidas stops and now converge on South Carolina for an end of summer national championship. BYU targets were not hard to find among the standouts.
Ikenna Alozie - The star of the event from beginning to end. He was the leading scorer on the Utah Prospects team that captured the championship. He averaged 17.4 ppg and 4.6 reb/g in bracket play. He made key plays at crucial times and had unforgettable dunks like the ones in this video (about 35 seconds in, also about 1:32 in). Alozie is ranked as the number 12 player in the ‘26 class by ESPN.
JJ Mandaquit - Fresh off his gold medal in the FIBA U17 World Championships, was part of a Compton Magic team that advanced to the Final Four of the event. Mandaquit joined forces with the number 4 player in the ‘25 class Koa Peat and the number 4 player in the ‘26 class Alijah Arenas. Mandaquit averaged 13.3 ppg in bracket play, including 18 points in the semifinals and a 16 point, 7 assist outing in the sweet 16. Mandaquit is the 48th ranked player in the ‘25 class.
Jasir Rencher - Rencher’s Team Lillard fell in the sweet 16 to eventual finalist Indiana Elite. In the backdraw Rencher had games where he scored 17 and 19 points. ESPN has him as the 11th best player in California in the ‘25 class.
Darius Bivins - Bivins’ Washington Warriors team fell in the first round of bracket play, but went 4-0 in the backdraw. Bivins averaged 8.75 ppg and 4.25 ast/g in those contests including an 11 point, 9 assist outing against the Mass Rivals. Bivins is the 8th ranked point guard in the class of ‘26 by ESPN.
Jalin Holland - The Utah Prospects’ second leading scorer en route to their championship. Holland averaged 10.4 ppg in bracket play and had two threes and two steals in the championship game. Holland is ranked 92nd in the country by 247 sports.
Utah Prospects 16U - The Prospects featured three players with offers from BYU: Junior County, Dean Rueckert and Jamyn Sondrup. The 16U Prospects fell in the quarterfinals. County averaged 13.5 ppg and had a 21 point 9 rebound game. Rueckert averaged 10.75 ppg and Sondrup averaged 11 ppg and had a 6 assist game in the opening round.
