Moussa Kamissoko, the number 18 player in the country, recently included his BYU on his list of 9 schools he’s visiting. The 6’8” wing is the top ranked player in New York and averaged 16.6 points and 9.4 rebounds per game at the EYBL Peach Jam event. He also shot 6 free throws a game. He was 0-9 from three for the event, but he had gone 6-11 at the Las Vegas event the week before and shot 35% for the summer.
Syracuse and Baylor will be the biggest threats to secure Kamissoko’s services. New coach Gerry McNamara would love to make a local hero the center of his class as he attempts to rebuild the Syracuse brand. Kamissoko’s length and athleticism would fit perfectly in the Orange 2-3 defense. Kamissoko attends Long Island Lutheran high school, Baylor has been highly effective at establishing a pipeline at Long Island or LuHi recently. Philadelphia 76ers star V.J. Edgecombe went from LuHi to Baylor. Last year’s #11 player and #2 point guard Dylan Mingo also committed to Baylor out of LuHi.
BYU (and everyone else) has made a priority out of recruiting guards with great positional length and an ability to attack off the dribble. BYU has been highly linked to DeMarcus Henry and A.J. Williams, two other tall guards in the class. Kamissoko’s visit to BYU doesn’t include a football game and he didn’t mention BYU in an early August interview with Pro Insight, but if things seem to be going south with Williams and Henry, the PROvo Cougars would likely not miss out on a chance to give a bag to Kamissoko.
